The world didn’t go quiet all at once; it happened in a flash of heat and desert sand back in ’04. One minute I’m in Iraq, and the next, the soundtrack of my life is replaced by a high-pitched ring and a heavy, weighted silence. They told me the brain injury and the spine were the end of the road. They were wrong.

While I was staring at the sterile white ceilings of Walter Reed, I wasn’t looking for pity I was looking for a frequency. I found it in the vibration of a guitar string. I couldn’t hear the notes, but I could feel the electricity. That’s where the Savvy Turtle DNA was forged.
